What is Restorative Yoga?

We live within a culture that is constantly moving and in demand of our attention, resources, time, efforts with many expectations, goals and guidelines. Many studies are showing that this lifestyle and constant stimulation is causing a great amount of stress, anxiety and depression impacting our sleep cycles, digestion, gut health, immune & nervous systems and inevitably dis-ease. The use of props makes it easier for you to maintain balance while you are stimulating and relaxing your body in supported shapes.

-Meaning of Restorative (ie. Restorative justice)
-Today’s First world struggles of Stress & how studies are showing the effects of “stress” on the body- (organs, heart, circulation, the nervous system, immune system, endocrine system and on a cellular level)

What will YOU be learning? 

-How restorative yoga is useful for children. Studies showing a rise in depression, anxiety & stress in kids

-The connection to stress (a fight or flight state) and dis-ease with today’s extensive studies

-How your thoughts, emotions, experiences & grievances are stored in the fascia, skin tissue, the organs & on a cellular level

-How stress impacts the Central Nervous system- a 1st World Endemic

-The power of healing through self-soothing tools

-How studies are showing impacts of emotions, thoughts and grievances on body physiologically

-Short introduction to the ideas around Chakras and the Subtle Body and how this relates to our dominant emotions, fears, experiences, reactions/responses and our level of energy, restlessness, vitality or lack of these qualities are interconnected

-The history & origins of Restorative Yoga-BKS Iyengar & how it was popularized

-the differences between YIN & Restorative

-Types of restorative poses & the effects of each pose

-How to include props as a way to support each students individual needs

-What is Mindfulness & meditation?

-the importance of integrating a personal practice of mindfulness & meditation before teaching it

-The Power of Gratitude- how to help your students move away from the “To-Do lists and Problem Solving on Auto Pilot” and back into the present moment

-How to tangibly practice Present Moment Awareness

-Sequencing & transitioning in and out of poses

-Timing- How to cultivate good pacing & rhythm as a teacher

-The Art of Silence- How to get over feeling uncomfortable in long periods of silence while teaching (How to facilitate a class that balances Silence and speaking as a way to offer personal contemplation & encourage deep rest)

-Present moment awareness and how to encourage these ideas in a class

-Setting an intention- guiding others through intention setting

-Detachment & Aversion- How these qualities can show up in our practice and practical ways to come back to “The Here & Now.”

-Awareness & consciousness- how to communicate these ideas in a practical way that does not offend your student’s faith/beliefs/religion/culture etc

-The importance of inclusivity- recognizing culture, faith, size, gender, visible minorities, trauma etc in a class

-The studies around Neurological Rewiring of your brain through deliberate stillness- Meditation & intention

-Energizing and renewing from the inside out- Vitality/Thriving vs. Surviving

-Letting go (embodying “letting go.” What does letting go feel like in the body?

-the state of allowing, receptivity & curiosity

-How to demystify Restorative yoga, meditation, mindfulness & Moksha-Liberation/Freedom (helping to cue the visceral feeling of ease, freedom, stability & balance in the body)

-Rejuvenate, revitalize, renew, restore and recharge

-Surrender through self compassion (“As within, so without”)

-Cultivating a safe space to encourage embodying Surrender/Letting go of Resistance

-Cultivating the courage to be vulnerable enough to ‘let go’ (using trauma sensitive language)

-Becoming the Witness, the Observer (watching the thoughts)

-Scanning the body (“relax your forehead, relax your eyebrows, relax the space between your eye brows)

-Nadi Shodhan (Alternating Nostril Breathing)

-Metta Meditation (Buddhist practice)- “May you be happy, May you Be well, May you Be safe, May you be Peaceful & At Ease.” Replace “You” with “I.”

Restorative Yoga offers a way out of the ‘monkey brain’ and into a state full of ease, calm, inner peace and surrender. A great way to practice the art of stillness and foundation for meditation, present moment awareness and self-reflection. RY Fusion classes are guided with soft music, poetry, candles, essential oils and a space ready for your heart to unfold.

For anyone who would like to deepen your own practice or add to your Yoga Teacher repertoire with this deliciously nourishing style. Your students will love you and you will walk away with new wellness tools that allow you to literally Be The Change you want to see in your own heart, your own life and in this world.

What do you need to bring? A pen, paper, your favourite yoga mat or use one of ours, a snack & an open heart.

$250 (tax included) Investment for full training and Restorative Yoga certification



Note- Certification for Yoga Teachers with minimum 200 hours certification. A Certificate of Participation will be given to all those who are not yoga teachers.
